Sunset at the Loch 23.11.21 The gentle red of the sunset sky reflected in the Loch. One of many colourful sunsets in the last week.
Autumn Tidy-up. The resident frog in the pond objected to the disturbance…. …. and cleaning out the nest-box revealed the sad sight that the possible second brood of Blue Tits failed… … leaving nine eggs which didn’t mature!
Seasonal. The trees to the north of the Loch have adopted their autumn colours.……… …….whereas unseasonally one bush in the Whins (Gorse) and Broom hillside at the side of the Loch has decided it is Spring!
Swanning around! Getting up speed ….. ..nearly airborne … ..a quick circuit … ..and a bit of a splashy landing!
Late Insects. Even with the weather getting cooler there are still a few Damselflies around the Loch. A sunny period yesterday brought out a Red Admiral butterfly in the garden!
Autumn indicators. The earlier than usual arrival of Whooper Swans from the ‘north’. Some twenty plus Whooper Swans arrived yesterday and although a few might stay, most will travel on south after a rest.
Out of the water for a stroll! A Great Diving Beetle (just over an inch in length and normally aquatic) slowly making it’s way along the boathouse track.
